The Good Life

March 23, 2018

6 years, 4 months, 4 days
3 years, 3 months, 3 days

It has been one of those marvelously mellow days.  I'm stress-free which means that my kids reap the benefits of a calm, clean house and have been playing beautifully all morning.  We did yoga, made English pancakes, had a dance party, went to the pool and now they are alternating between blocks and coloring.  I'm listening to the Jack Johnson station and feeling rather at peace with life. I have time to sit down and write a quick blog. Small miracles.

On days like today, I feel myself reflecting back on life and how I came to be where I am today.  Life has been good.  Life is so good.  I gaze out the window, across the neighborhood and over toward the hills that lead to the mountains (currently hidden by clouds).  How did I get here?  Here at 35 years old, with a husband, two kids, a dog, a house, a couple of cars, a SAHM with a side job as a RN... more than the "stuff", I think on all of my truly incredible memories.  Is it possible that I was at some point 3 years old? 6 years old?

There are a few memories that stand out today: a drive through the snow on a dark night in high school with my bestie, horseback riding through the hills of Andorra, running along a trail with a new love in Joshua Tree, sitting in a pub in Ireland listening to the most angelic voice, cradling a belly filled with life, holding a newborn, packing up all our belongings into several vehicles and moving...How can you possibly sum up your life in one sitting?  How can you make anyone understand the journey that you have been on?  We each have our own story, in the end.

Today I wish I could share this feeling of deep satisfaction with Colter and Aspen.  I pray that they may feel this to their very core.  That someday they'll be sitting in their home, with their children and wondering how on earth they arrived at that place. Truly, I am in awe of the gift of this life.  I know I should do more, feel more, love more, give more, be more present.  At least today I feel a sense of purpose, a higher calling for the life I have been granted.  I would not ask to be anywhere but here.

There are hundreds of places I long to travel to, foods I'd love to try, books to read, adventures to participate in, friends to reunite with...but today I am content to simply be.

Today I'm living the Good Life.
